WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that the installation of extra flood protection measures at Tenbury’s homes and businesses is now just weeks away.
And the MP urged local people to complete their homeowner paperwork to allow the flood protection measures to be built and delivered to the town as soon as possible.
Dame Harriett visited Whitehouse Construction, based in Derbyshire, to see the construction of bespoke flood gates which are being installed across the country helping to protect homes and businesses from flooding.
The company will shortly set up a compound in the town by the swimming pool ahead of starting installation of flood defence measures at up to 200 properties through a £1.8 million fund secured by the West Worcestershire MP for this year.
Dame Harriett said: “While I keep lobbying for funding for the main town-wide flood defence scheme, in parallel I have been watching closely as plans are developed to improve flood protection at an individual property level.
“I’ve met with the team at Whitehouse Construction who will shortly be setting up a base in the town to run this project – expected to last around a year – and the project team is urging people to complete and return their paperwork so that work can get going.
“Tenbury will flood again and it is vital that those who flood regularly are able to access this publicly-funded support and improve their chances of weathering the inevitable next deluge.
“Early warnings are being issued about the threats of potential bad weather this Winter so I hope seeing construction teams in the town will offer a measure of reassurance for the community.”
