Over the weekend you may have seen in the media the very sad announcement that Philip Bradbourn OBE MEP lost his battle with bowel cancer and died on Friday night.
Paying tribute to Phil the Prime Minister said he was “a very well respected and effective politician whose dedication to public service was truly admirable”.
Phil had been a West Midlands MEP since 1999 and was a well regarded and effective member of the Conservative delegation in Europe. He had been an active member of the Party for nearly fifty years having joined as a Young Conservative. He was a great supporter of the voluntary Party and a former Chairman of the West Midlands Region.
Anthea McIntyre, his fellow MEP for the Region, said "I am deeply saddened at the death of my friend and colleague Phil Bradbourn. I have known Phil for nearly forty years, from our days as Young Conservative activists in the West Midlands, through to recently working together as MEPs. He has been a real champion of our Region and its people in the European Parliament and was well respected across the political spectrum. He will be greatly missed."
Phil had a strong belief in Local Government having served as Political Advisor to the Conservative Group on Wolverhampton Council before being elected as an MEP and worked closely with many Council Groups since becoming an MEP. Born in the Black Country, Phil always worked for the Region and promoted its best interests in Europe. His dedication to the Party in the Midlands is unsurpassed. I know he will be greatly missed by everyone in the Party across the Region.
As yet we do not have any funeral arrangements, these will be posted once known.
A book of condolence has been opened so that you can send messages and memories of Phil for inclusion. Please email your contributions for our book of condolence to [email protected]
