WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has called on Ministers to adopt policies to cut household energy bills after Ofgem announced an increase to the price cap.
Households are set to pay more for their energy from October when the price cap will rise by four per cent.
The typical household energy bill will now be £1,723. Labour promised to cut energy bills by £300 but they have increased by £400 since the 2024 General Election.
Dame Harriett has previously secured action on heating oil suppliers ripping off rural customers and supported local pensioners whose Winter Fuel Payments were stopped by the Government.
Dame Harriett said: “Energy prices are set to rise yet again from October despite Labour’s promise to cut them.
“The previous Government took steps to protect local households when wholesale gas prices rose, but the new Prime Minister’s paltry adjustment to VAT on electricity will be wiped out immediately by the increase to the price cap in the autumn.
“Instead he should adopt our Cheap Power Plan to ditch Net Zero, get drilling again, axe the Carbon Tax, abolish VAT on energy bills and save the average family £200 a year.
“I fear many families may struggle this winter and anyone who needs my assistance should contact my office.”
