Dame Harriett at Lancelott Court

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has visited the residential street in Pershore where homes were devastated by fire and spoken to residents.

The MP went to Lancelott Court yesterday (18 August) to offer long-term support as they rebuild their lives.

Dame Harriett wrote to the affected families and praised emergency services, Platform Housing, Wychavon District Council and the wider community for the swift and comprehensive response to the blaze which has left multiple properties uninhabitable.

The fire broke out last Thursday (13 August), destroying a number of homes and dozens of properties needed to be evacuated at short notice.

Dame Harriett said: “My deepest sympathies go out to all those affected and having seen the damage myself, I cannot begin to imagine the loss currently being felt by the families whose homes were destroyed last Thursday.

“The residents who cannot return home have lost so much. They have been given alternative emergency accommodation, and I have met with neighbours as well to give them my contact information should they need any assistance at all from me as they rebuild their lives.

“I am so very thankful for the amazing local response we have seen. People have been very generous. I will be sure to work closely with all the agencies involved to ensure residents are supported moving forward. I have also shared the Chief Fire Officer’s recommendations with Government.”
