Major Roads Boost

As part of the Levelling-Up Fund, it was confirmed that Worcestershire County Council will get an extra £139 million to improve local roads. The council has always been good at repairing potholes but if you see a issue make sure you report it. There are some problematic roads that haven’t yet been adopted by the county council such as those on new housing estates and I am eager to ensure the right powers are in place to make sure developers fulfil their responsibilities to local home owners.

More Cash for Buses

Many of you will have seen my recent efforts to support the new on-demand bus service and in recent weeks I’ve been doing a survey on how the county council should allocate the extra £3.4 million to improve our local bus services. Buses and trains for an important part of our efforts to reduce car journeys and deliver on our net zero pledges and I am keen to see improved investment in both.

Extra Cash to help with winter NHS pressures

Earlier this month, the Government handed more than £1 million to Worcestershire County Council to help ease the pressure on the NHS this Winter alongside £200 million to help the NHS directly. The £35 million new Emergency Department at the Worcestershire Royal is now open and staff speak highly of it and access for ambulances is beginning to improve after some initial teething problems.

As we approach the festive period I want to thank the many people whose work will go on as normal – the doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, the shop staff, waiters and waitresses who will be working harder than ever. Christmas is a time to celebrate but I also encourage you to take the time to keep an eye on your elderly or infirm neighbours who may be on their own at this time of year. It’s a time for giving as well as receiving.

Finally, I hope you all tuck into our amazing local produce and show your support for our amazing farmers and local shops.

I hope you all have a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
