CANCER FUND-RAISERS bagged the support of West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin at a Malvern supermarket charity campaign.
Supporters collecting money for the Rory the Robot appeal recruited the services of local MP Harriett Baldwin and NHS Acute Trust interim CEO Chris Tidman to help raise awareness of the campaign.
Volunteers were collecting cash and helping to pack bags at Morrisons in Malvern in aid of the campaign to buy a state-of-the-art robot for the Urology Centre at the Alexandra Hospital.
The robotic system – which costs £1.6 million - allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery to remove the prostate gland and is potentially the most effective and least invasive surgical approach to prostate cancer treatment available today.
Harriett commented: “This fantastic campaign has already raised £250,000 and I was delighted to help spread the word and encourage people to visit Morrisons and get involved.
“We have a great new oncology unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and this effort to raise money for a state-of-the-art surgical machine would be a huge boost to our efforts to treat those with prostate cancer.
“Malvern people are outstanding at helping to raise money for these big-ticket items of medical equipment and I hope people will look out for fund-raisers and join me in supporting their efforts.”
