WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has called on Tesco to update the local community on their plans to construct a store in Tenbury Wells.
The supermarket has planning permission to build a store on the site of the derelict cattle market but so far the company has only installed fencing around the disused buildings.
The site has been subject to vandalism in recent weeks and Harriett met with local district councillor Tony Penn to discuss local people’s concerns.
The pair have written a letter to Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis calling on him to provide an update on the company’s plans for a store.
Harriett said: “The current site is the worst of both worlds – it is an eyesore and tarnishes reputation of the town. I think most people simply want to know what is going on and whether there is a timeline to bring a store to the town.
“The development of a permanent flood defence plan depends on knowing the arrival date of the new store and I am told that public realm works are also being delayed until the work to build the store are complete.
“Across the county, other supermarket chains are building new stores but the Tesco site is simply left to rust. I hope that we get some news soon.”
