MEP's question night a success

A local information session last night about the forthcoming EU referendum has been hailed a success.

A wide range of questions about Britain's relationship with Europe were posed during the meeting at Welland Parish Hall, organised by the Conservative MEP for the West Midlands Anthea McIntyre, whose constituency includes Worcestershire.

She believes voters feel short of simple and reliable information, especially as both sides in the referendum debate bombard them with contradictory messages. The event was part of series of events across the region aimed at giving impartial information on the pros and cons of Britain's membership of the European Union.

The issues raised included the size of the EU's budget, immigration and freedom of movement, the proposed "red card" system to allow national parliaments to block unwanted regulation.

After the meeting, Miss McIntyre said: "The questions showed that people really feel the need for more first-hand information to help their decision in this hugely important vote.

"I was as unbiased as possible and I think people appreciated that. Where I could not answer a particular question I will try to find the details and forward them later."

Further events will now be held in Kingswinford and Nesscliffe, Shrewsbury. Details are at: http://antheamcintyre.com/index.php/2013-05-10-12-14-32/413-eu-referendum-information-sessions-your-questions-answered
