Deputy Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, Councillor Bronwen Behan recently paid a visit to Envirosort at Norton. The meeting was a workshop to review the Joint Municipal Waste Strategy for Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The key principle within the Strategy is Waste Prevention.

Bronwen said "We have seen a number of significant changes since 2011. Our recycling has improved to include glass. Envirocover will replace landfill from 2017 and is on course for completion"

"The markets for recyclates is getting harder and quality has become important. The bio-mass market is now taking most of our timber which both diverts it from landfill and it is reused. However, as it is no longer recycled it does not go towards our recycling %"

The review of the Strategy should be completed by the end of March and a new Strategy adopted by the Councils from April/May.
