Mark Harper was elected as Member of Parliament for the Forest of Dean in May 2005. In December 2005, he was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Defence. In July 2007, he was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Disabled People. He was re-elected as MP for the Forest of Dean on May 6th 2010 with an increased majority of 11,064 and was subsequently appointed as Minister for Political and Constitutional Reform in the new Coalition Government. On 4th September 2012, he was appointed Minister of State for Immigration at the Home Office. He resigned from this post in February 2014 and returned to Government in July 2014 when he was appointed as Minister for Disabled People.
He was re-elected once again as the Forest’s MP on 7th May 2015.
The Prime Minister appointed Mark as Chief Whip (Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury) in the new Conservative majority Government and he was made a Privy Counsellor shortly afterwards.
Mark is married to Margaret and they live in the Forest of Dean.
