WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the work of a major supermarket to support local food producers in its stores.
The MP visited Waitrose supermarket in Malvern to hear about the company’s commitment to source produce from local producers where possible and sell local fruit and vegetables when in season.
Dame Harriett also met with Evesham-based PrimaFruit which sources fresh fruit for the supermarket chain. She was briefed on the challenges both businesses are facing with extra costs as a result of employment taxes and increased wage costs.
Dame Harriett said: “I’ve visited Waitrose in Malvern on a number of occasions while I have been MP and it is always useful to get an update on current trading conditions.
“I’ve taken some useful feedback from the meeting about how businesses of all sizes are being hit by extra costs and the risks this has on price inflation and the cost of living.
“I’m also pleased to see the green charity token system returned which supports local good causes. Waitrose has always been a good corporate citizen and a popular local employer and I welcome to efforts the local team does to support our hard-working local food producers.”
