WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has today welcomed the latest fall in unemployment reported by the Office of National Statistics today.
Latest ONS figures show that the number of people in West Worcestershire claiming Job Seekers Allowance has fallen to 564, down from 870 last year, which is a fall of 35 per cent.
The number of people claiming JSA has more than halved since 2010, when 1279 people were out of work and claiming benefits.
Overall there are now a record 30.9 million people in work, with 1.9 million more people in work since the last election. This has been driven by businesses creating jobs, with 2.3 million new jobs in the private sector.
Harriett commented:"I would like to thank all the brilliant businesses who have created a record number of jobs. This means there are thousands more people in West Worcestershire with the security of a pay packet for the first time.
“Coming alongside the news that wages are rising faster than prices, it’s clear that the government's long term economic plan is working for families in our area, helping them to be more financially secure."
