WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has this week urged local people to check on elderly and vulnerable people during the Christmas period.

Harriett met with the Malvern charity Community Action to thank its volunteers for all the work it does during the year to ensure people are not stuck in at home during the year.

And the MP joined the charity in asking local people to ensure that they keep an eye on neighbours who may be having a tough time over the festive break.

Early in the year, the charity was presented with a national award by Health Minister Jane Ellison to recognise its work in the community providing transport for those who can’t get out and about.

Harriett said: “Community Action does an amazing job during the year and I wanted to thank both the team and the army of volunteers who give their time to help those less fortunate.

“Christmas can be a depressing time for people who are stick at home alone and who may be elderly, inform or suffering from the loss of a loved one.

“The volunteers of Community Action can’t be there all the time so I would ask that local people rally together and try to check on their neighbours. The gift of company is often the most welcome gift of all.”

Susie Forbes from Community Action added: “The ‘Stuck in, Get Out’ campaign pioneered by Community Action has helped to raise awareness of social isolation in Malvern.

“In order to highlight loneliness at Christmas at the Tourist Information Centre window depicts Noel, a lonely elderly gentleman.

“We were delighted to welcome Harriett to take tea with Noel and pleased that her support will help to recognise the important service delivered by the charity in the local community."
