MP Urges Local Firms to Take Up Industrial Strategy Challenge

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has urged local companies to take up the Industrial Strategy challenge and create more high-skilled, high-paid jobs.

The Industrial Strategy consultation paper was unveiled by Prime Minister Theresa May featuring a ten-point plan to help businesses to grow.

The strategy aims to build on people’s skills on qualifications as well as helping more firms to bridge the gap towards their more successful competitors. There will be a focus on encouraging people to study so-called STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths.

The document was published on Monday (January 23) and local companies are encouraged to study the report and comment on the recommendations.

Harriett said: “In West Worcestershire, we have a track record for amazing innovation but we haven’t always exploited them commercially.

“We can all be much better making and selling our world-leading products to existing and new markets and this strategy will help companies to be the best that they can possible be.

“The strategy also aims to build on our nation’s skills and we are lucky to be at the forefront of cyber security skills. We must do all we can to equip as many people as possible with the right skills to help us succeed on the global stage.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to study the report and comment on the conclusions.”
