WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has today welcomed an initiative to promote the work of our armed forces for classes re-starting school this week.

The Department for Education has released a range of class materials to help teachers introduce students to the work of the armed forces at home and abroad, including current operations.

The teachers’ resources include background information, views and different perspectives from many longstanding members of the Armed Forces and include lesson ideas, areas for discussion and links to other publications and information.

Harriett commented: “This year sees the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War and I welcome any initiative which helps to educate our young people about the role our armed forces have played in the past and continue to play to this day.

“I have taken part in a parliamentary scheme to find out more about the work of our armed forces and annually mark Armed Forces Day as well as the local Remembrance Day ceremonies.

“There are opportunities for local people to join both the reserves and also to work with the newly created cyber reserves so this is a great way to show young people what the armed forces do.

“I fully support this initiative to introduce this topic in schools and hope that we will see schools take up this challenge throughout the year.

The free, high quality resource which will be made available to all schools can be viewed at http://www.armedforceslearningresources.co.uk/.
