Dame Harriett Baldwin MP at Keep Britain Tidy event

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has urged local people to get out and about this summer and show support for the local visitor attractions.

In recent weeks the famous Malvern Hills walk along Pinnacle Hill in Malvern Wells has been shortlisted for a national award and Keep Britain Tidy has recognised parks across the county with a Green Flag Award.

The MP urged local people to enjoy our precious green spaces and visit hospitality and tourism venues which rely on summer trade to prosper and thrive.

The popular Abbey Park in Pershore and St Wulstan’s Nature Reserve in Malvern were both awarded another Green Flag and Dame Harriett attended an event in Westminster to celebrate safe and clean green spaces.

The MP also highlighted the work of local people to keep their own local spaces clean and tidy with the adopt-a-street initiative.

Dame Harriett said: “We are blessed to live in a beautiful part of the world and there are great green spaces which are easily accessible and offer local people and tourists a great day out.

“I was surprised when I visited a Malvern primary school recently at how few pupils had walked up the Malvern Hills and I am keen to spread the word and encourage more people to get out and about this summer.

“However, many children have raised with me the importance of keeping our green spaces tidy and I do my best to promote initiatives like the local councils’s Adopt A Street initiative where people are able to take ownership of their own local areas and keep them presentable.

“I’ve been out with local volunteers clearing litter and I thank everyone who works so hard to keep our area tidy.”
