WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has slammed the ‘Budget of Broken Promises’ which raises the taxes of working people to increase spending on the welfare state.
After last year’s Budget which punished businesses of all sizes with extra costs and threatened the future of the family farm, this year the Chancellor ignored manifesto pledges and increase taxes for working people.
Earlier this week, the Budget was approved by Labour MPs who chose to put their party first and voted for higher taxes on working people to pay for more welfare.
Dame Harriett said: “This week was a sad week for hard-working people as Labour MPs chose to tax wealth creators and working people and reward Benefits Street instead.
“Throughout the year, I’ve been talking to businesses who have scaled back growth plans because of rising costs and there are fewer jobs out there for young people as a direct result of the Chancellor’s political choices.
“I’ve also campaigned strongly for the reversal of the family farm tax and a Conservative Government would repeal this measure if returned to power. The family farm tax puts our nation’s food security at risk.
“The budget leaks have also destroyed confidence, and it is welcome that the Treasury is running an inquiry.
“This was a Budget that shows Labour didn’t mean any of the promises it made to the electorate in the run up to the General Election and they can’t be trusted to run the economy or the country.”
