MP Repeats Infrastructure Investment Call

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has repeated her call for Government investment into the county road and rail network to help the local economy.

The MP voiced the concerns of her constituents, who welcome the growth in jobs and work in the local economy, but who are frustrated by the slow road network around Worcester.

Harriett has again written to Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin MP urging him to support the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership bid for funds to dual the Carrington Road Bridge and complete the dualling of the rail lines towards London.

Harriett said: “More and more businesses are creating new jobs in the county, meaning more cars will be on the roads and peak time travel is already beyond capacity for car journeys between Malvern and Worcester.

“Local councils have also adopted ambitious plans for new housing, especially around Worcester.  It is really good news that we are dualling the Southern Link Road from Junction 7 of the M5 to the Ketch roundabout, and getting a Worcestershire Parkway Station, but I don’t want us to stop there.

“I have written to the Department for Transport to support the LEP plans to invest in these two crucial infrastructure projects.

“Alongside better broadband, this is a consistent complaint from my constituents and I was keen to make the case to the Secretary of State that we need investment funds as soon as possible to help support our economic ambitions.”
