Harriett met with Ed Vaizey, who is a Minister at the Department for Culture Media and Sport which is responsible for overseeing the national programme.

Harriett has held a number of meetings with ministers in Westminster to discuss this issue. Her lobbying has seen more than £3.3m allocated to the county for broadband projects and is pressing for an additional £2.35m to extend the superfast broadband network even further.

Harriett commented: “We have made much progress upgrading urban areas and I am delighted that 97 per cent of Malvern now has a superfast broadband connection.

“As the MP for the most rural part of Worcestershire, I’ve been working to ensure that villages, business centres and farms get upgraded, just like the towns.

“I was keen to discuss this with the Minister and update him on where our local programme had got to.

“I am also keen for BT to share the detail of the areas in my constituency which won’t be covered by their current programme and I will be working with Worcestershire County Council to get hold of this data immediately.

“Once we have that information, we can back community WiFi schemes and satellite links like the ones in Little Witley, Martley and the Teme Valley that get faster speeds to the most remote rural areas.”
