2015 proved to be a very successful year for the Conservative Party.  A Conservative majority now gives us the opportunity to build on past achievements and deliver the vision for Britain which we all share. For us as MEPs it is so much easier to work with the Government to advance Britain’s priorities in Europe, now that all Ministers are Conservative!

Our record in Government is strong, we are witnessing record levels of investment, growth in the economy and more people in work than ever before. We have also seen the launch of the Midlands Engine which will be focusing on boosting productivity, attracting further investment to the region, increasing connectivity and building regional tourism. Conservatives have a clear and optimistic vision for our future – in stark contrast to the confused and backward plans currently advocated by a Labour party in total disarray.

So, just as last year’s elections were crucial, 5th May 2016 will be very important too. We will have the largest set of elections in this Parliament, with both local government and Police and Crime Commissioner elections in the West Midlands on that day. The joined-up approach to campaigning, which we have in our region, has ensured stunning results for the Party in recent years and your MEPs will continue to campaign with you across our region and especially in the target areas.

With Europe, we are both determined to see West Midlands businesses benefit from a deepened single market and enhanced trade deals. We continue to push for reforms, to cut red-tape and protect Britain’s interests and our borders.

On the 23rd June this year, we will have the promised referendum on whether to leave or remain in the EU. The decision will have huge implications for the future of our country and the West Midlands. It is important that everyone is as well-informed as possible when they cast their vote.  Your MEPs are engaging in a number of questions-and-answers sessions ahead of the referendum, to answer people's queries as dispassionately as possible in good faith as their MEPs.
