WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin this week praised the efforts of a Chase pupil who has been selected to be an ambassador for the National Citizen Service.

Henry Hewer was selected out of thousands of people to become an NCS ‘Leader’. He met with Harriett and Civil Society Minister Rob Wilson at the Houses of Parliament as part of a Leaders’ Week which comprises further coaching and training event to help them become community leaders of the future.

The National Citizen Service is open to 16 and 17 year olds and involves young people taking part in local community initiatives as well as attending a week-long residential activity programme.

More than 190,000 students have already graduated from the NCS programme and it continues to be rolled out across the country.

Harriett commented: “It was great to meet Henry and hear about what he feels he has already learned as part of the National Citizen Service.

“I feel this is a great initiative and I am starting to get really good feedback from people who have taken part – including one student who carried out her work experience in my office this week.

“The aim of the programme is to encourage young people to have a strong public service and I am sure Henry will go on from this Leaders’ course to become a great asset in the community.”
