A MALVERN PUPIL was this week treated to a political trip of a lifetime as part of a week of work experience.

Seventeen-year-old Jennifer Elsey was given tours of the House of Commons and Lords, as well as getting to watch Prime Minister Questions

and shadow Harriett during her work in Westminster.

During her work experience, the Year 12 student spent time in Harriett’s Westminster and constituency offices, experiencing many aspects of working for a Member of Parliament.

Jennifer is currently studying Economics and Politics at Malvern St James School, as well as Spanish and Music and has just completed her AS level exams. Last month, she stood as the Conservative candidate at Malvern St James School’s mock election.

Harriett commented: “I first met Jennifer when she stood as a candidate at her school’s mock elections and I was keen to show her first-hand what it is like to be an MP.

“I am keen to encourage young people to engage in politics and I hope that Jennifer is inspired by this week of work experience to go on to get more involved.”

Jennifer, who outside of term-time, lives in Kempsey, added: “My time in Westminster was a wonderful experience and every moment in the busy day was fascinating.

“It has given me a real insight to what life in politics is really like and it has reinforced my dream of working in politics.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it and I will certainly remember it as a truly fantastic experience.”
