WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed today’s Autumn Statement which set out a range of measures to rebuild Britain and deliver the country’s long-term economic security.

The Spending Review announced there will be no cuts in the police budget with real terms protection for police funding as well as delivering on the Government’s commitment to spend two per cent of our national income on defence.

There is also the biggest real terms rise in the basic State Pension in 15 years - the triple lock commitment will mean that, next year, the basic state pension will rise by £3.35 to £119.30 a week.

The Chancellor also introduced the first national funding formula for schools – an issue on which Harriett has campaigned both in the last Parliament and this one.

Harriett commented: “This Autumn Statement delivers on the promise we made to working people in West Worcestershire that we would put their security first.

“Protecting our economic security by taking the difficult decisions to live within our means and bring our debts down and protecting our national security by defending our country’s interests abroad and keeping our citizens safe at home.

“I am particularly pleased to see the plans to address the formula for funding local schools and I know it will be welcomed by teachers and parents across the county.”
