WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has been named Shadow Paymaster General and Minister for the Taxpayer as Kemi Badenoch reshuffles her Opposition team.
The former Shadow Business and Trade Minister will now focus on scrutinising the Government’s tax and spending plans.
Dame Harriett has been a strong critic of the Government’s economic policies including the Family Farm Tax, means testing of Winter Fuel Payments, increasing the Jobs Tax, Business Rates, Student Loan repayments and levying VAT on school fees.
She brings a wealth of experience following her long and successful career in finance and serving as Economic Secretary to the Treasury. She is a former Chair of the Treasury Select Committee and will continue to sit on the Committee.
Dame Harriett said: “I am delighted to take up this position and look forward to scrutinising the Government’s tax and spending plans ahead of the upcoming Autumn Budget.
“The new Prime Minister and Chancellor have been very tight lipped about how they’ll pay for their expensive pledges.
“Kemi Badenoch as Leader of His Majesty’s Opposition has set out clearly costed plans for tax cuts and increased defence spending.
“I will be holding the Government to account and working with the Shadow team to set out better plans and a brighter way forward.”
