WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has offered her support to a local campaign that brings together all the groups that work with dementia sufferers.
The MP attended the inaugural meeting of Malvern Dementia Action Alliance which gave a tea party to celebrate its launch at Malvern Priory Lodge Hall.
The group aims to raise the awareness of the condition with major employers, Age UK, the public, local civic leaders, the police and care providers.
This week, Harriett also offered her backing to a nationwide campaign to recruit ‘Dementia Friends’.
Harriett commented: “I underwent training to become a Dementia Friend last year and I am delighted to wear my badge and offer support to initiatives which raise the profile of this terrible disease.
“As society ages, more local people will be diagnosed with dementia.We are lucky to have a world expert on the subject, Professor Dawn Brooker from Worcester University living in Malvern.
“Locally, we've added dementia beds at Davenham, built a wonderful community hospital and added some great new extra care housing which will allow people suffering from dementia and Alzheimers to get the right care closer to home and their loved ones.
“More money is being spent on research into a cure. The cost of care is also being capped and it's great to see local organisations coming together to help people with dementia live as well as they can in Malvern"
